Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, specifically at 714 Old US 421 S in Boone, North Carolina, Bald Guy Brew Coffee Roasting Co. stands as a testament to the dedication required to produce truly exceptional coffee. More than just a place to grab a quick caffeine fix, this establishment has cultivated a reputation built on meticulous sourcing, expert roasting, and a genuine commitment to the local community. For residents and visitors alike navigating the scenic routes of the High Country, Bald Guy Brew offers a consistent, high-quality experience that elevates the daily ritual of coffee drinking into something special. Their presence in Boone is significant, contributing to the vibrant, independent business landscape that defines this mountain town.
The journey of a coffee bean, from its origin in distant, fertile lands to the final, aromatic cup served in Boone, is complex and requires precision at every stage. Bald Guy Brew embraces this complexity, focusing intensely on the roasting process—the critical step where potential flavor is unlocked. They understand that the character of the bean, whether it’s a bright, acidic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe or a deep, chocolatey Sumatran Mandheling, must be respected and enhanced, not masked. This philosophy permeates their entire operation, making them a destination for those who appreciate the nuances of freshly roasted coffee.
What sets Bald Guy Brew apart in a competitive market? It often comes down to the foundational principles they adhere to, ensuring that every batch leaving their facility meets their high internal standards. They are not merely resellers; they are artisans dedicated to the craft of transforming green beans into the rich, dark jewels that fuel the mornings of the High Country.
Commitment to Freshness: The core of their operation revolves around small-batch roasting. This ensures that the coffee purchased by customers is often roasted just days, sometimes hours, before purchase, maximizing flavor and aromatic complexity. This dedication to freshness is palpable in every pour.
Focus on Quality Sourcing: While the exact origins rotate based on seasonal availability and quality assessments, Bald Guy Brew prioritizes working with reputable importers who maintain ethical and sustainable sourcing practices. This means the beans they select have inherent quality and are grown under conditions that support both the environment and the farmers.
The Roasting Expertise: The skill applied in their roasting profiles is perhaps their most defining feature. They employ carefully calibrated roasting techniques designed to bring out the unique characteristics inherent in each specific bean varietal, offering a diverse and exciting range of flavor profiles suitable for various brewing methods, from pour-over to espresso.
Community Integration: Located conveniently on Old US 421 S, Bald Guy Brew serves as a reliable local hub. They are deeply woven into the fabric of Boone, supporting local initiatives and providing a welcoming atmosphere that encourages lingering and connection, reinforcing their role as a true neighborhood roaster.
The experience of visiting Bald Guy Brew Coffee Roasting Co. is about more than just the transaction; it's about engaging with a product made with passion. Whether you are a seasoned coffee aficionado seeking a specific single-origin roast or someone simply looking for a reliably excellent cup to start a day exploring the nearby Appalachian trails, their offerings cater to a broad spectrum of tastes. Their location in Boone positions them perfectly to serve both the bustling university community and the steady stream of tourists drawn to the natural beauty of Western North Carolina.
In conclusion, Bald Guy Brew Coffee Roasting Co. represents the pinnacle of local, craft coffee roasting in the region. Their dedication to freshness, their nuanced approach to the roasting process, and their commitment to quality sourcing solidify their standing. For anyone seeking an authentic taste of Boone’s independent spirit, a stop at their facility on Old US 421 S is highly recommended to experience coffee roasted with genuine care and expertise.

Best coffee in Boone, hands down. It's no frills - don't come here for fancy flavored drinks (although the few that they offer are excellent). But, if you want excellent, sustainable, single origin coffee, this is the best place to get it.
Don (the bald guy) is truly a master roaster. It's especially exciting when I walk in and see he has some new, unique beans. Just within the past couple months, I've gotten excellent Kenyan and Rwandan varieties that aren't in his typical rotation. Usually we'll just ask "what's good today" and they'll recommend something.
We often order online - they'll roast to order, and have it ready for pickup.
The inside is spacious and has a "mountain industrial" vibe, with a wood-burning stove, and lots of coffee gear. It reminds me of how Boone was when I was young.
In the back corner is a line of best-in-class Tone Swiss machines to make perfect, consistent cups. They also sell a few muffins, bagels, quiche, and some local [frozen] meats, but coffee and good conversation are the main events.

This place is so cute and has the best coffee. I came to the area for a retreat and we had Bald Guy every morning, and did some coworking in the roastery.
Highly recommend, they were so friendly as well!

This was my first time here, and I absolutely loved the vibe of the place. You can sit on the front porch and drink your coffee with a fantastic view. Plus, the roaster I talked with was very knowledgeable, and the coffee is very tasty with several different varieties roasted. I will definitely visit Bald Guy Brew again.

Place is the best coffee shop you’ll find around here. The owner and staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. It’s a great place to study, and they have a cozy fireplace that keeps the place warm even on freezing days. I highly recommend it for both the coffee and the service. More

We visited up here from Charlotte and stopped by for a quick cup. I didn't expect the coffee to be so good. Probably the best pour over I've had in north Carolina. Staff were super sweet and they constantly roast coffee so it's a great place to hang out

Awesome roasters and coffee joint!
Shawn (their roaster) explained their process of roasting and showed us much of what they do. The coffee was amazing; probably the best coffee I’ve ever had.
We tried a couple of roasts and took some beans to go. It was really great. Highly recommend.

By far my favorite coffee shop in Boone. The owner and employees are so incredibly knowledgeable about coffee. They do not leave out a detail. Also has the best ambience of any coffee shop. My favorite time to go there is when it’s cooler outside and they have a fire in the stove. Owner is super down earth as well.

Good morning!
May I just start with the fact that I have had 3 mornings, 2 weeks in a row now, that I've been able to have time to myself and my dog and get the chance to enjoy the crispness of fall wandering into my home, while having a cup (or more lets be honest) of your delicious coffee.
My friend Ryan is a regular to your establishment and has said nothing but great things about how amazing your coffee is, and how nice the people are. Although Ryan and I don't have the same particular tastes when it comes to what we want out of our beverage, he's probably the only one that understands my obsession with it, and that I am the sterotypical monster if I don't have at least one cup a day. So once he started showing off his new favorite spot, I asked him to send me some. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I received 3 different packages- Berry Balanced (Ethiopia), Baker's Chocolate (Costa Rica), and Rustic Sweetness (Guatemala). And the roaster was kind enough to turn the Rustic Sweetness a little darker for me as I am one who enjoys the darkest roasts possible. I waited this long to write a review one because I like to play with my coffee, and two because work sometimes got in the middle of it all and I tend to forget some things. But this is the picture perfect moment to enjoy some joe and hype up a business.
Berry Balanced: 4.75
I'm not a fruity coffee person, but this was surprisingly nice. It was a solid choice for use as a cold brew and in use as iced coffee with a splash of almond or oatmilk. Worked well with protein smoothies that I would add fruit to that gave the "balance" of a caffeine kick and fruit medley. However this is not my go-to for hot preparation.
Baker's Chocolate: 5
I love this more than I thought I would. I enjoyed each preparation of it as hot, iced, and cold brew. I rarely found I wanted to add something to it, except for the day I discovered we had a caramel and also french vanilla syrup at work. I don't like a whole lot of sugar in my coffees unless its like you get into Starbucks and everything gets weighed down by sugar. Even there I am messing with their intended recipes because the coffee ends up getting lost. This is the most versatile to me. I've used it in my protein smoothies full of chocolate and peanutbutter flavors, but I'm saving some grounds specifically for a steak rub.
Rustic Sweetness: 5
Hands down best of the 3. It has also proved versatility in how I use and drink my coffee, but it has been the one I consistently grab when I want to make myself a fresh pot of coffee on my mornings off. It doesn't need anything, although I have tried to see. But why spoil something that is already so perfect? It is the one I have in my cup pictured and as I write this am finishing it and going to grab a second cup.
I can't wait to try more coffee from your team, whether its an order to Charleston, or if I just make a day to come up and see the magic for myself.
Coziest regards,
Maddy

Step back in pre-Starbucks days and enjoy the atmosphere of a true coffee shop, including San Francisco coffe grinders, pour over/French Press coffee extravagance at its best. The aroma alone is worth a stop. This guy knows coffee and has a pedigree in coffee specialization. A full range of coffees sure to please all palettes. From full on bold roasts to lighter blondes etc. It's more of an event than a popin coffee experience.

Bald Guy Brew Coffee is one of the best coffees I ever had anywhere I have been in the country and I have had coffee from roasters everywhere and I am pretty fussy. In addition to having excellent organic coffee, the coffeeshop also was one of the coolest I have ever seen. The coffeeshop is in what appears to be an old rustic cabin and full of antiques and various types of equipment and machinery I am not too familiar with. In addition to that they do have the coffee roasting machines there and its nice to watch them do the roasting.
I got to sit on the rocking chair enjoying a beautiful view of colorful mountains while sipping on some of the best coffee ever. It was definitely the best coffeeshop experience I have ever had. I had a couple different coffees here, including a Colombia and a Naturally Processed Yirgacheffe which was the best naturally processed coffee I can remember having. It had a smooth, yet rich, earthy and mildly fruity balance. Many naturals I have end up tasting too tart or fruit-heavy (like sweet wine). This natural processing in this coffee really brought out the complex flavors, which I feel a good natural processed coffee should do.
I got to meet the roaster Don who is a great guy and even gave me a little sample to take home back to Charlotte. It's too bad they don't have a coffeeshop like this is Charlotte, but anytime in Boone this probably would be the only coffeeshop I would go to and is a real gem!
